What is global warning? |
| |
Global warming refers to the rise of global temperatures caused by increased amounts of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. As the sun's energy enters the Earth's atmosphere, these greenhouse gases block heat reflected from the Earth's surface, which would normally travel back into space. Greenhouse gases are essential to maintaining the temperature of the earth; without them the planet would be so cold as to be uninhabitable. Likewise, an excess of greenhouse gases can raise the temperature of the planet to unlivable levels. |

Are there any debates over global warming? |
| |
Global warming is a scientifically proved and predicted consequence that the mankind will be facing if not acted now. The only debate is how fast it is going to impact us. |

| 5. |
Are we really causing it or is it a part of the natural climate change cycle happening over years? |
| |
Humans have evolved over time and have learned their way out of all hurdles. Whether it is natural or man made, it certainly is threatening the very existence of mankind, the very planet that sustains us. In such case it is our responsibility to find ways to avert. We live the spirit of "being human". |

How much energy will be saved during the event? |
| |
We will be measuring how much energy is saved during Hyderabad Unplug with the help of the energy providers in the city-but the main aim of the campaign is to continue to be energy-efficient beyond the event on May 03, making small actions to reduce our carbon dioxide emissions every day. |

| 10. |
Will all electricity be turned off during Hyderabad Unplug? |
| |
No. We are only asking for lights to be turned off. Businesses should adhere to safety standards and security and emergency lighting should remain on. Residents should consider unplugging non-essential items like cell phone chargers, computers and countertop appliances when not in use. |
|

|

| 11. |
Will street lights remain on? |
| |
Yes. It is important that Hyderabad Unplug is celebrated in a safe and secure environment, so we will not be turning off any of the street lights, lights in hospitals, lights used by emergency services, or any lights in public spaces which would impact public safety. Hyderabad Unplug is about living in a modern world while doing the right thing. |

Are we planning to sustain this event? What happens after May 03? |
| |
Yes, we want to sustain this event. We view May 03 as one step towards long-term changes people can make to curb their carbon dioxide emissions. All participants are asked to replace older light bulbs during that hour with energy-efficient compact fluorescents that use 75 percent less energy. Additionally, participants will be invited to pledge to take actions that will reduce their energy consumption in the long-term. Corporate partners are asked to identify lasting ways to reduce energy usage, while communicating their commitment to key internal and external audiences. |
